Blessed are You, YHWH our Elohim, King of the Universe, Creator of Fragrant Oil.
Above is a Hebrew blessing said when smelling the fragrance of an anointing oil much like a prayer in gratitude to the CREATOR of the plants from which essential oils or SHeMeN are made. The SHeMeN or pressed life and fluid of a plant which sprouted and produced life is a blessing.*
During the past 25 years or so of my experiences with healing with herbs and essential oils, I have had many questions if using such is a demonstration of a lack of faith in Elohim and/or the work of the Messiah. They have been told that it’s evil and not giving credit to the Creator. This same thought pattern is what is used against Believers and non-believers alike who have discovered and use G-d’s Creation of plants for healing.
The use of plants for healing works for the righteous and the unrighteous just as YHWH sends rain on both for He does not show partiality, especially in regards to His laws and principles of His Creation. What goes up must come down as gravity is not partial to whatever person or object challenges the Law of Gravity.
Now, He might heal Believers faster or more because they use BOTH herbs or essential oils AND prayers of faith and trust in Him. After all, BOTH contain His Life-Giving WORD or DaBaR (frequencies put in order from the beginning). But He is the GREAT ELOHIM and can do as He chooses and be merciful and heal the unjust.
His spoken breath and frequencies of sound created everything and are in everything just as science and digitized technology demonstrate today. Scientists say everything has a frequency, signature frequency or vibration – seen and unseen. They just don’t acknowledge the Bible or the Creator as the One giving and sustaining such!
Following are some thoughts and Scriptures that, I believe, demonstrate that SHeMeN is Tov (Good) – Not Ra’ah (Evil) !!!
Though we believe, in faith, we are healed by the work that YeHuSHuWaH did on the execution stake, we do not walk around in total health. We may be healed but all things are not restored yet. Scripture tells us in Revelations 22:2 that the tree of life will yield leaves for the healing of the nations/peoples. If I’m reading this correctly, even during the time of restoration — there will be leaves for healing the people!!! That sounds like herbs and/or essential oils to me.
There is a restoration process. I believe breathing, food (especially from plants) and water were all provided by Elohim for our health and to heal. Even water, pure water clear as crystal (which vibrates/resonates) will proceed from the throne of the Elohim and of the Lamb (Rev.22:2).
The Word indicates that Elohim created plants/herbs for healing.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb (glistening with essential oils?) yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit who seed was in itself, after his kind: and Elohim saw that it was good (Gen. 1:12).
Thus, Elohim made grass, plants, herbs, seeds, trees and fruit and it was GOOD/TOV — NOT evil!
The essential oils made from herbs, seeds, fruit other plant material are just like, food, water and air – we need them to be happy and healthy. Elohim made provision of them for restoration and healing just as He provided YaHuSHuWaH (Yeshua) for such. He provided everything we need – we just need to use them appropriately and praise Him.
Many people who hold to using herbs and oils as idolatry are the same ones who have no problem getting surgery, stitches or taking man made medications/drugs that are harmful in other ways to the body. It doesn’t make sense to me, rather, it’s hypocritical to accept surgery and pharmaceia but not Elohim’s creation of plants/herbs and oils from such.
Rev 22:2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, the plant that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:29 And Elohim said, “See, I have given you every plant that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed, to you it is for food.
Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
The root of the Hebrew word (H402) for food/meat means to be complete or whole. So every plant that yields seed and every tree whose fruit yields seed if for us to make us WHOLE and COMPLETE – that is healed. I believe that plant or seed or fruit can be for eating, as an herb or essential oil.
What would they be commanded to call for the elders and anoint the people for healing when sick if it was idolatry? What is lost in that passage is that they didn’t just use any oil – they used essential oils that had healing properties.
Also Hezekiah was told to put a poultice of figs on his boil and he was healed. If Abba wanted to just heal him why did He have Isaiah instruct him to have the figs applied to his ulcer/boil?
2Ki 20:5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
2Ki 20:6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years, and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
2Ki 20:7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
YaSHuWaH himself used a clay poultice and then had the man wash in water to heal the blind. Did He have the power to heal using nothing but His spoken word? Of course, He did; but, He chose to use spit and clay! Could it have been a type of clay that draws or provided certain minerals? Even with the spoken word to heal or thought to heal, from Messiah, such entails DaBaR – the Living Word that is life-giving with healing frequencies or vibrations which resonate to bring forth life and healing.
Joh 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed/smeared the eyes of the blind man with the clay . . .
Joh 9:7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way, therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
David asks to be purged for emotional healing with Hyssop plant or oil.
Psalms 51:7 – Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Aaron was instructed to use the Ketoret Incense which is made of resins that are diffused with heat to heal the people of the plague.
Num 16:47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
Num 16:48 And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stayed/STOPPED.
In the Torah Portion – Terumah, we see SHeMeN (essential oils, herbs, resins, oil — all coming from plants) for 3 main reasons:
Exo 25:6 Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense . . .
The purposes for shemen/oil were for:
light to see
< >/massage for physical healing for the body and < > (which is diffused/inhaled) for one to delight in for their body, soul and emotions to rejoice and heal.1 Timothy 5:23 – Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
